Dr. James O. Rodgers

“The core message of the diversity movement is a call to recognize and acknowledge that differences and similarities are a fact of life in any group of humans.”

– Dr. James O. Rodgers, President and Principal Consultant of The Diversity Coach

Dr. James O. Rodgers, president and principal consultant of The Diversity Coach, believes that effectively managing diversity requires a new approach to managing people. He has seen firsthand how a lack of good management practices can cause chaos and disrupt the workplace, drastically lowering productivity. His goal is to bring diversity management as a key business strategy to all businesses in this highly connected, globalized economy.

Jim is an engineer, a business strategist, and a scholar in the field of diversity management. He has distinguished himself as a management consultant, recently being elected as a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants (IMCUSA). His latest formal research provided empirical evidence of the value of well-managed teams of diverse composition.

In order to fully understand management as a profession, Jim examines it from all angles: as a passionate employee, as a scholar of management, and as a practicing management professional. He has consulted for numerous major corporations, bringing his comprehensive, logical approach to diversity management to such high-profile clients as Coca-Cola, Johnson & Johnson, United Way, and Southern Company.

Jim has developed a number of innovative tools to help organizations create and implement effective diversity management strategies, including CultureScanTM and Deliberate DiversityTM, which covers everything from recruiting the right people to executing results-oriented diversity management. Using these methods, companies can obtain 100% effort from 100% of their people 100% of the time.

Aside from consulting, Jim is also a public speaker, facilitator, and the author of Managing Differently™: Getting 100% from 100% of Your People 100% of the Time. Jim is an experienced manager and executive who worked with BellSouth (now AT&T), Bell Communications Research, and American Telephone and Telegraphic before founding The Diversity Coach. He received his BSEE from Howard University, a Ph.D. in Management from Walden University and an MBA from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. In 2014, he was honored by the University of Alabama in Birmingham School of Business as the Excellence in Business Top 25 fastest growing business enterprise, which recognizes UAB graduates who have achieved extraordinary success as business leaders.
